Update of Information
If you attended the Canada Information Evening on July 1st keep an eye out this week as there will be further information dropping through your letterbox this week! I have addressed the letter to you as an Explorer Scout but you need to give the letter and reply slip to your parents as well!!! If you didn't attend the Information Evening but you would like some information about the Canada Expedition please send me a quick email. Please remember you need to be 16 years or over on the first day of travel!
Exciting Explorer Belt Event Announced!
The Explorer Belt is the challenge of a lifetime available to Explorer Scouts aged 16 and over. It is a chance to undertake an International Expedition over 10 days that brings a real understanding of a different Country, it's people and way of life.
The Explorer Belt is often described as the 'antidote to the package holiday'. It is designed to help young people develop a real understanding of another Country by travelling through that Country, working as a small team to complete surprise projects and meeting local people.
To complete the Explorer Belt an Explorer must:
Plan and train for an International Expedition as part of a small team
Travel to another Country of their choice and travel through that Country over 10 days
Complete a major project of their own choice
Complete around 10 smaller projects
Keep a notebook or diary during the expedition
Take part in a debriefing after the expedition
Make a presentation about the expedition
The event will be taking place in Canada over the first two weeks in August 2010. The cost will be around £950 per Explorer which will involve a lot of fundraising on your part. This price will include air travel, transportation costs, accomodation and insurance. This is a great chance for you as Explorers to develop physically and spiritually putting into practice all you have learned.
It is not to be treated lightly, there will be a lot of time and effort to be put in before you actually set off for Canada.
