Explorers Visit GG IceCream

Picture
Group Photo
On the 3rd June 2009 our Explorers visited GG IceCream makers near Leven in Fife. Approximately 15 Explorers took part in the visit, seeing how Ice Cream is made, visiting the dairy cows and more importantly tasting the Ice Cream. The Explorers enjoyed their visit on a lovely Spring evening. They got to see a few calves at only a few days old, although there were complaints about the smell of some of the Cows.

GG Ice Cream is situated on a sunny hillside overlooking the River Forth, Nether Pratis Farm has a beautiful location. GG Ice Cream is made on the farm from milk produced by the family's dairy. The traditionally raised cows graze on rich meadow pasture within sight of the ice cream parlour. They have over 200 Cows and they are milked twice a day to produce the milk which goes into their Ice Cream.

All of their ingredients are locally sourced and their Ice Cream is sold throughout local farm shops and delicatessens in Fife.

Why not take a visit up to the farm it is open between 1pm-4pm Sunday and 10am-4pm Monday. Check out their website for directions - www.ggicecream.co.uk

Edinburgh Marathon 2009

Picture
It was an early start on Sunday 31st May 09 for the Explorers at the Edinburgh Marathon. In Edinburgh to welcome runners at 7am for a 9am start they had a long day not finishing til 4.30pm. It was a beautiful day, lovely for the Explorers enjoying the sunshine but too much for some of the runners who passed out. We helped to look after 2 lorrys of bags numbered 7500 - 12500. It was an excellent day out and a great opportunity to be part of a fantastic event. See more photos on page 2 of our photo pages.

 Conservation Leader gives Explorers thanks.

Picture
A regular event on the Explorer calendar - the Conservation evening always proves popular and is a great way of giving something back to our Communities. On Wednesday 10th June, Explorers went along to Falkland to take part in another of these evenings. The Conservation Leader was really pleased with everyones effort:

"Just after 1830hrs we were all joined by Explorer Scouts from Glenrothes,
Markinch and Kirkcaldy. Again teamwork kicked in and Group kit was grabbed
from everywhere at Sugar Acre so within 5 minutes we headed off for a two
hour project up in Coalpit Den Community Woodland.  I was taken aback at the
way every single person got straight into the work and by the time it came
around to an Irn Bru and twix break, we had two very large piles taking
shape.  As we departed the thirty four of us had cleared another two large
areas ready for planting in October.  Thank you to everyone for so much hard
work in such a short space of time, with so little notice.  Again I felt a
sense of pride and achievement in you all, and how hard you all worked
together while having fun."

Well done to all who attended this evening. There will be more Conservations coming up in the future, if you are interested please send me an email and I will put your name down in advance. Check out the pictures on page 2 of the photo's page.

Activity Weekend

A few Explorers headed along to Weymss on Saturday 13th June to take part in an evening of activities, overnight camp and to help out on Sunday at the Tractor Rally.

The midges were out in force at Weymss on Saturday, luckily the weather stayed pretty dry despite the rain forecast. Sunday mornings weather was excellent until it changed early afternoon and the Explorers were treated to extremely HEAVY RAIN showers, with thunder and lightening followed by hot rays of sun. There were 9 Explorers on the Saturday evening and 5 plus Ross, DESC on the Sunday parking cars for the Tractor Rally.

If you have any photos from this event please email them to me at: Amanda-Jane.Reilly@Virgin.Net

Skate Park

Picture
A trip to the Skate Park in Dundee was very successful. Half a dozen Explorers headed along to Dundee on Wednesday 24th June 2009. It was a great night with everyone having a go on bikes, skates and boards - yes even Ross had a go (check out the pictures page!). The only thing injured on the night was a few people's pride. Why not head along to the skate park - check the website for opening times etc - www.factoryskatepark.com
